Tests during pregnancy (GLUCOSE CURVES)

 

Finalidad: 

This test is designed to assess blood sugar levels to detect the risk of gestational diabetes and is usually performed between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy.

 

If you have glucose levels of 140 mg/dl or more, your gynaecologist will prescribe an Oral Glucose Overload of 100 grams.

Preparación: 

Three days before the test takes place:

  • Carry out normal activity
  • Eat your usual diet, with a minimum of 150 grams of carbohydrates per day, i.e. no sugar restriction.
  • Take your usual medication.

 

The day before the test:

  • Avoid tobacco use due to the stimulation of glucose metabolism induced by nicotine.
  • Take your usual medication.

 

On the day of the test:

  • Fast for 8-12 hours (you can drink water) and do not smoke.
  • The test must be taken in the morning
  • Take your usual medication.

 

During the test:

  • You will avoid all physical activity and remain seated and not smoke.
  • After glucose administration, you should not consume anything except water.

Procedimiento: 

This test starts with a blood draw, after which you will be given a solution of glucose. After the necessary time, will have a blood draw.

If vomiting occurs during the test, the test is interrupted and will be performed on another day. It is necessary to repeat the test from the beginning
