New Genetic Unit at Hospital Viamed Santa Elena

Analiza Group has opened a new genetic unit at Hospital Viamed Santa Elena, Madrid to improve diagnosis and treatment of hereditary illnesses.

 

Hospital Viamed Santa Elena, Madrid has opened a new clinical genetic unit whose aim is to provide patients suspected of or diagnosed with a hereditary illness an integral customised service. The unit has a multidisciplinary team responsible for carrying out a genetic study, prescription and analysis of the genetic tests necessary, likewise advice and clinical follow-up of cases.

 

The new genetic unit of Hospital Viamed Santa Elena joins the healthcare network providing this kind of service in Spain, which are around 40 today. According to the Spanish Society of Clinical Genetics and Dysmorphology (SEGCyD – Spanish acronym), there are approximately 7,000 known hereditary illnesses which affect 6-8% of the population. Some of the most common include: Down Syndrome, cystic fibrosis, haemophilia, MD and hereditary cancer.

 

This new initiative arising from the collaboration of two large groups, Analiza and Viamed, aims to improve the quality of life of patients with hereditary illnesses, facilitating their early diagnosis, correct treatment and prevention of complications. You must get an appointment to be attended by the unit which can be accessed either via referral from other hospital services or individually at the hospital via Analiza admissions.
