The thyroid is an endocrine gland located in the front of the neck. It produces two thyroid hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones help to control energy expenditure, the body’s metabolic rate and development from childhood to old age and so affect almost every organ.
Many illnesses and conditions can affect the thyroid gland and cause a variety of problems in other areas of the body.
- Goitre: Enlarged thyroid gland
- Hyperthyroidism: When the thyroid gland produces more thyroid hormone than your body needs
- Hypothyroidism: When the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone
- Thyroid cancer
- Nodules: Lumps on the thyroid gland
- Thyroiditis: Swelling of the thyroid gland
To check the condition of your thyroid metabolism, we recommend getting a blood test to analyse thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels.
Find out about your state of health with just one test. Our Analiza laboratories conduct full hormone profile blood tests with no need for fasting or prior appointments.
